Volkswagen's core electric SUV starts at $45,095 with 291 miles of RWD range and 282 hp. The ID.4 offers a spacious interior and straightforward driving experience aimed at mainstream buyers upgrading from gas SUVs. It competes directly with the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Toyota bZ4X. VW ended ID.4 production at its Chattanooga plant in mid-April 2026 to free up capacity for the Atlas. VW has since confirmed there is no 2027 model year ID.4; 2026 model year inventory carries buyers into 2027, and the successor arrives as the ID. Tiguan, built in Emden, Germany rather than Chattanooga. VW confirmed on September 28, 2026 that the ID. Tiguan, built on the new MEB+ platform with physical buttons returning to the cabin, replaces both the ID.4 and the coupe-styled ID.5 (which gets no successor); it debuts in October 2026 around the Paris Motor Show, with European sales starting in early 2027 and the US to follow. VW is clearing out the last 2025 model year ID.4s with a $12,500 customer bonus toward purchase or lease, available Sept 1 through Nov 2, 2026 (Electrek / USA Today).
